Hambantota, a coastal city in southern Sri Lanka, has long been a strategic trading port due to its position along ancient maritime routes. The city’s name is believed to originate from “Hamban” (Malay traders) and “Thota” (port), reflecting its historic role as a harbor for foreign merchants.
